Shri Hanuman Temple | Jakhoo
Jakhoo Temple is an old temple in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, India, devoted to the Hindu god Lord Hanuman. It is located on Shimla’s tallest peak, Jakhu Hill, 2.5 kilometers east of the Ridge, at a height of 2,455 meters above sea level.
The Jakhoo Temple, located at an altitude of 8,000 feet, houses a towering 108-foot statue of Lord Hanuman that can be seen from all across Shimla.
According to legend, Lord Hanuman stopped here during his quest to acquire the Sanjeevani herb in the Ramayana, making the shrine a significant religious place.
Visitors can access the temple via a picturesque, woodland walk or a short drive. Along the route, you’ll come across friendly monkeys who are supposed to be the temple’s protectors, adding to its appeal.
Aside from its spiritual significance, Jakhoo Temple provides breathtaking panoramic views of the city and neighboring hills, making it a must-see for nature lovers and photographers.
